About Us

Solsbury Adaptive Classroom Products, LLC. began with a desire to create functional and stylish furniture and products for individuals with special needs.  As a school based therapist for nearly 26 years, I designed our desks to be easily adjustable and structurally sound.  From these designs our manufacturer created the prototypes.  All of our desks are ADA compliant.  Our unilateral and bilateral hinged desks and footrests are patent pending.  All of our products are third party tested and meet or exceed all safety and regulatory standards and requirements.

Our first desk was designed for a former student with a diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  This young man used a power wheelchair and was dependent for all activities of daily living.  In his classroom, he used a drafting table.  The raised edgebanding around the table was uncomfortable when his arms rested upon it.  A pool noodle was duct taped to the edgebanding to prevent skin breakdown and to reduce discomfort from the pressure.  With a joystick control, he drove his power wheelchair to the table.  Due to muscle wasting, he was no longer able to lift his arms up.  As a result, it took three staff members to position him at the drafting table.  Once at the table, his teacher would pull it away from him while two additional staff members lifted his arms up overhead.  His teacher would then push the drafting table toward him while the two staff members lowered his arms and positioned them on the desktop.  I knew this young man needed a desk which would give him the dignity he deserved, while alleviating the need for three staff members to assist in his positioning throughout the school day.  Hence, the Bilateral Hinged Desk with a front cutout was created.  As a result, only one caregiver is needed for upper extremity positioning for an individual with weakness or paralysis.

Since the development of our first desk, Solsbury Adaptive Classroom Products, LLC. has added several additional desks and footrests to our product line.
